Isn’t it great to see children playing?

The activity bag can be ordered free of charge from Stadium by any school with first-graders. The contents vary from year to year, but there is always something for everyone.

Several studies in recent years report that today’s children don’t get enough exercise. Here at Stadium, we want more people, particularly children, to get active. To encourage this, since 2005 we have been handing out our activity bag free to all 4 000 schools in Sweden that have at least one first-grade class. The bag contains activity equipment such as balls, skipping ropes and cones to encourage physical play. The only limit is the children’s imagination!

The purpose of the activity bag is to inspire more activity in school, beyond the timetabled PE lessons. Many children are involved in sports activities outside of school – but not all of them. We know that good habits are established early in life and, through the activity bag, we want to offer a first step towards an active and healthy lifestyle. The project, part of Stadium’s Good Citizen work, has seen over 25 000 activity bags donated to children in Sweden and Finland since the beginning.

The content of the bags has changed from year to year, based on feedback from the children, but the ambition is for the content to always offer something for everyone. Children spend a great deal of time in school and Stadium wants to help make that time as active as possible!

“The focus is on first-graders in order to establish good habits at an early age,” states Patrizia Nilsson, Sports Marketing Manager at Stadium. “Children’s health and exercise is an important social issue and there is great concern that children don’t exercise enough, generally speaking.”

“This is a problem that needs to be taken seriously, but it’s difficult to talk about without being seen as lecturing. At Stadium, we want to inspire everyone to adopt an active lifestyle and I’m hopeful that our initiatives are helping to make Sweden more active,” says Karl Eklöf, CEO of the Stadium Group.

The activity bag can be ordered free of charge by any school with first-graders. The contents vary from year to year but there is always something for everyone.

Stadium sends an email to every school’s local authority (as stated in the Swedish National Agency for Education’s schools register) in June with the subject line Stadium Activity Bag. The bag can then be ordered via this email. Any school with a first-grade class can order a bag.

If you’re not sure whether your school can order an activity bag, contact the school’s local authority in the first instance.
